- Machi cackles to herself on the Umbala bridge — Ayane ate her cookies, and she swears the girl cannot hide from her for long. Bring the witch her runes, let her put her mark on you, and the crown is yours.
Walkthrough
Stage 1 — Machi
Location: umbala 185,105
Talk to Machi. She sizes you up, promises 'a nice prize' and lists the runes she needs.
Stage 2 — Machi
Location: umbala 185,105
Return with every rune. Machi takes them, recites an incantation over you and orders you to go find Ayane.
Bring:
- 1,000x Rune of Darkness
- 2,000x Bloody Rune
Stage 3 — Ayane
Location: um_dun02 23,203
Find Ayane in the Umbala dungeon. She panics at the sight of your eyes, Machi's spirit enters her body through you, and the witch calls you back.
Stage 4 — Machi
Location: umbala 185,105
Go back to Machi. 'You've served your purpose well' — she hands over the crown.
Receive: Chinese Crown
Notes
One time per character (the variable Phoenixcrown ends at 4). No job, level or Zeny requirement. Both rune stacks are taken at once, so do not visit Machi until you have the full 1,000 + 2,000. Machi says Ayane is 'somewhere in the Umbala forests', but Ayane actually stands inside Umbala Dungeon 2 (um_dun02 23,203). Despite the script being named phoenixcrown, the hat handed over is a Chinese Crown.
